While all spent autocatalyst materials are ultimately smelted and refined in Hoboken (Belgium), material is constantly being sourced, pre-processed and sampled via various Umicore entities:

Umicore Precious Metals Refining (Hoboken, Belgium)
- Started in 1887 as a lead-desilvering plant
- Now an integrated metals smelter, including a Cu and Pb refinery, precious metal refinery, special metal refinery
- Full name: Umicore Precious Metals Refining (Hoboken), a division of S.A. Umicore N.V.
- Legal entity: S.A. Umicore N.V.

Umicore Precious Metals Refining (Hanau, Germany)
- Part of the original Degussa precious metal activities. Those operations, called DMC2 as of 1999 and OMG as of 2001, became part of Umicore on August 1st, 2003.
- The activities in Hanau which are part of Precious Metals Refining, relate to the sourcing of raw materials as well as weighing and sampling, for further processing in Hoboken (Belgium).

- Collects spent catalytic converters accross North America; also includes decanning of ceramic converters.
- Started as a family owned company in 1984, which became part of Union Minière / Umicore on January 1st, 1991
- Name change from Umicore Bowden to Umicore Autocatalyst Recycling USA on July 1st, 2004
- Full name: Umicore Autocatalyst Recycling USA, a division of Umicore USA Inc.
- Legal entity: Umicore USA Inc.
